nanowrimo
November is here and I’m starting another book. This one…a bit different.
Last year I worked on my second novel (Along the Way) during #nanowrimo but didn’t finish it because I was too eager to return to my first novel ([dis]Connection). This year, I’m switching gears from fiction to non-fiction as I’m writing a novel about career development in the age of Artificial Intelligence. The book is currently under way. I’m targeting about 50k words because I want this to be a one night read (~3 hours for the average reader according to https://numberofwords.com/faq/how-long-read-5000-words/).
I wasn’t going to write a non-fiction book. I was just starting by writing some essays about the research I’ve been doing regarding how knowledge work is changing with the increasing abilities of artificial intelligence. Those essays started to form into a longer topic and I wanted to start connecting the essays. Now, I’m writing a book.
One question that keeps coming to mind: Do I know enough to write a book? Followed quickly by: Who am I to do this? But I’ve answered the first question with a loud YES after I started writing some notes about what I wanted to write. My notes are wide ranging and deep and really showed me that I’ve been studying this topic for so long, I have a lot to say. On the second question, I keep answering: Why not me? And I don’t have a good answer for that last question yet so I keep writing.
I’ll share more progress each week. My goal is to finish the book by end of November but we’ll see.
An election day poem
There is a lot of anxiety for a lot of people this Nov. 3rd. I hope this helps.
Books
I love my books.
They taste great.
Each page,
peels out with a rip
and crumble.
I chomp on the pages
to enjoy the story.
Adventures
are like watermelon
and spring.
Mysteries
are sour and sweet
and smoky.
But my favorite books
are my sister’s.
When I snatch a book from her
she chases me to get it back.
I laugh as she runs after me.
She laughs as she chases me.
I love when she plays with me.
Note: No actual books were harmed in the writing of this story. :)
