Soundtrack: Some Assembly Required

Writing is a creative exercise and for me. Creativity (for me) is fueled by music.

I love listening to hard driving tracks while writing. It feels like the music is fanning the flames of creation in my heart through my fingers to the keyboard. My head nods, lyrics break out my lips and often people ask me: what are you listening to?

For my current novel project, I've had a pretty specific soundtrack. To avoid forgetting and answer the question "what am I listening to", here's the soundtrack for this current project. The working title of my novel is "Some Assembly Required" (edit: now called (dis)Connection).

Primarily, I'm really digging Parkway Drive Reverence and Ire. These are commonly taking up residence in my ear drums for this novel. The mix of metal and melodic metaphors have been a perfect fuel for a book about human connection (and the lack there-of due to technology).

Secondary, folk metal (metal appears to be the theme) has had a heavy influence. Specifically, Eluveitie's Ategnatos has been making frequent playlist appearances. Again, the heavy driving songs accompanied with the almost ethereal singing gets my creative fire going.

Finally, I always need to include Johnny Cash and Type O Negative as I frequently listen to them for inspiration. For both, the stories and drastically diverse sounds really help me write. For Cash, I turn to "I've Been Everywhere", "God's Gonna Cut You Down" and "Like the 309" among others. For Type O Negative, I go with "Blood and Fire", "Cinnamon Girl", "Daytripper", "I Don't Want to be Me" and tons of others.

"Some Assembly Required" is a dark project and the soundtrack reflects that. There are some haunting parts, there are some fun & free parts, there are some lonely parts but I'm hoping my work is a harmony like these albums.

I hope those songs/albums help you in your creative project. I'm always on the look out for good writing soundtracks so feel free to comment your soundtrack below. Each project has a different soundtrack so I'm always open to new music!
