Time to Live

This quote really hit me about 2 years ago…

I guess it comes down to a simple choice really, get busy living, or get busy dying
— Andy Dufresne from Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King

For years I’ve thought about being a full time storyteller. In the early 2000s I submitted some fiction stories out to magazines but never heard anything. After on and off trying for a few years, I decided to take another approach. In 2008, I started writing non-fiction in an effort to build a portfolio but then never came back to fiction.

In 2019 I got the wakeup call I need to get busy living. For me, living is writing / telling the stories that I’ve had brewing for years. Summer and fall of 2019, I wrote a novel. Then three more in 2020. I wasn’t doing anything with them because I really enjoyed writing and didn’t want to mess with the headache of publishing.

But like many people, 2020 made me think about what I wanted. Could there be a time in my life where all I did was write and tell the stories swirling in my mind?

It was time to get busy living again. And so:

I am publishing my first book

I setup a company, engaged editors and designers and pulled together a collection of short stories. Introducing my first published book which comes out October 22nd on Amazon.

Now what?

I’m hopeful that in a few years, all I do is tell stories all the time. In the meantime I need to build my writing career like I built my tech career.

BLOTS is a horror collection for adult readers. My first novel will come out next year (a YA novel-in-verse). I have 5-7 projects beyond that in the queue as well so it is going to take me a while to get through all this.

I’m hoping you’ll stick with me and help me keep focused.

How can you help?

Well, to start you can sign up for my newsletter. If I have to do a newsletter about my projects then I won’t get lost in other projects.

Signing up also gets you access to a free audio version of BREADCRUMBS (one of the stories in BLOTS). This audio story is an experiment where I’m exploring using Artificial Intelligence (AI) voices to tell stories in unique ways. I hope you enjoy my first project. Sign up for the newsletter to check it out.

The Story Continues

I’ll be posting more updates on what I’m up to in the coming weeks. BLOTS comes out October 22nd in paperback and kindle. I’ll be posting to more stores in the coming months. If there is a store you want me to post to sooner let me know in the comments.

In the meantime, sign up for the newsletter and let’s stay in touch.
